The amp sounds the same with it [the attenuator] on or off, except
that it cuts the volume.
I claim the attenuator is a "harp tweak" . It lets you turn your stock
amp further, which helps drive the power tubes to saturation, without
feedback. And its an expensive tweak at that. Lowering the preamp tube
gain is another way of doing this. Different approach but same goal.
And cheaper.
